  2. This article is so funny! Personally I don't think I'd feel as proud as actually owning Manolos or a Chanel purse just because my Second Life avatar has a CGI version of it... But obviously based on the article many people don't share that same opinion. It's a bit scary how Second Life has taken the spotlight over the "real" life of some of people, isn't it?

  3. I agree, I do not really see the point in shopping for virtual items, but I did kind of like that type of thing when I was younger, so maybe some people just have not grown out of it. I know my little cousins play computer games that are very similar, where you can arrange outfits and go shopping for an avatar (I think they have them for Barbie, and I know I saw a commercial for another version the other day).
If it was just virtual shopping I would say there isnt any harm in it, but I find it kind of conserning that people are spending their real money on virtual items. It's one thing to initially buy the game, but then to continually spend your money, and have no limit to how much you can spend, probably creates problems for some of the users.

  4. I should say thanks for posting this article, this is just the sort of thing that can generate informed discussion.

Now the next problem is how to bring interesting new things on the blogs to the attention of class members.

  5. I think it says a lot about the pressures of modernity when people feel the need to create an idealized, virtual version of themselves in a fantastical world...
